Q&A from Anonymous

Thanks for the Martina in Jozi link you posted a while back. I'm moving to Jo'burg for a year abd I was wondering if you had any more blogs to recommend? Amy

Firstly, I am so glad you’re going to Joburg! It’s my home and I am biased, but it’s a wonderful place. More wonderful, at least , than the awful international rap it has.

Actually, I stopped reading Martina in Jozi after her Soweto post and removed that link I posted. Nothing against her and I am sure she is a nice person, but I have very little interest in reading a ‘white girl goes to Africa and helps people and encounters problems’ blog.(I do volunteer work with my school - I have a lot of opportunities. But I am very uncomfortable writing about it and I think giving back to the community and people less fortunate than yourself is best when done quietly without hoohah).  This isn’t a slam on Martina, at all, but I guess she writes for the expat crowd and since I am South African, I don’t really understand where she is coming from. BUT, I am sure she will give you a lot of insight, just take it with a pinch of salt. She seems to like Johannesburg, which I like a lot - always nice! But, I have so little time to read blogs, I tend to only focus on following the ones I LOVE.

That being said, the only Joburg blog I DO read, is my dear friend Thomas. He is a born, bred, forever loving Joburger. He loves the city more than anyone I know, and he is extremely well read and educated about Africa, too. So, although he usually posts photos, if you ask him questions, he will undoubtedly give you better answer than anyone else.

His blog is called JoziPod and it can be found here http://jozipod.tumblr.com/
